Elkhan Bashirov was appointed as the Director of Branch office of Umid Babek Operating Company in the Republic of Azerbaijan on 22 July 2025. He brings almost 20 years of international experience in the energy sector, having held senior leadership positions at BP across operations, strategy, and joint venture management. His career highlights include serving as Operations Manager at the Rumaila oil field in Iraq — one of the world’s largest oil fields — where he led a multinational team and oversaw production of more than 950 mbd. He also worked as Business Advisor to BP’s Executive Leadership Office in London, gaining strategic insight into the global energy landscape. He is currently pursuing executive education at Oxford University, further strengthening his leadership expertise.
